About the Opportunity

Our client is looking for a seasoned Senior Internal Auditor to join their growing internal audit and risk function, reporting to the Internal Audit Manager. This is a great opportunity to step into a complex, dynamic environment where you’ll play a central role in strengthening internal controls and supporting regulatory compliance across a large Canadian organization. You’ll be a key contributor in planning and leading audits, driving C‑SOX/Bill 198/NI-52-109 testing, and partnering with stakeholders across finance, operations, and corporate functions. The role offers exposure to senior leadership, a broad view of the business, and the chance to influence continuous improvement in processes and controls. If you enjoy blending technical audit rigour with practical business insight, and want to see your work translate into tangible improvements, this role will give you that visibility and impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and maintain up-to-date process and control documentation to support Bill 198/NI-52-109/C-SOX compliance.
  • Lead internal audits from planning through execution, including risk assessment, testing, and evaluation of control effectiveness.
  • Prepare high-quality working papers and supporting documentation for all audit procedures and testing performed.
  • Present audit findings, conclusions, and recommendations to business unit management in a clear and professional manner.
  • In collaboration with the Manager, draft formal reports at the conclusion of audits, special reviews, and other consulting engagements.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with management and staff in business units under review, ensuring open communication throughout the audit process.
  • Follow up with process owners on remediation activities and monitor progress on agreed action plans.
  • Lead the planning and execution of special reviews and value-add consulting projects as required.
  • Identify control gaps and process improvement opportunities, and develop practical recommendations for management.
  • Act as a key contributor in the annual risk assessment process and audit planning.
  • Partner with management to develop pragmatic solutions and provide advisory support in a rapidly changing business environment.
  • Travel up to 25% of the time to conduct audits at various locations across Canada and other jurisdictions as needed.

What You Bring

  • Professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA – CA, CGA, CMA) preferred.
  • Prior audit experience (internal or external) is required; CIA designation is a strong asset.
  • Solid understanding of risk and control concepts developed in an audit environment.
  • Strong grasp of financial assertions, risks, and controls, with good operational awareness.
  • Experience with Bill 198/NI-52-109/C-SOX or Sarbanes-Oxley and risk assessment processes is an asset.
  • Previous experience in the construction industry or with job cost reporting is desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of IFRS and the COSO internal control framework is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Experience with SAP and Business Objects is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a team, and engaging with stakeholders at all levels in a large organization.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to project timelines and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in work.
