The Badminton and Racquet Club of Toronto (B&R) is a premier private sports and social club with a rich history of excellence. Incorporated under the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, 2010, B&R offers its members world-class facilities, a vibrant community, and exceptional experiences in both athletics and social engagement. As they continue to grow and enhance their operations, we are supporting their search for a strategic and dynamic Director of Finance to join their leadership team.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and accountable to the Board of Directors and Finance, Audit, Property & Planning Committee, the Director of Finance is a key member of the Senior Management Team (SMT). This role is both strategic and hands-on, providing financial analysis and recommendations to drive organizational performance while ensuring robust financial management and operational execution.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date financial records and ensure the integrity of financial data
- Prepare and present timely monthly and annual financial statements, variance analyses, and management reports
- Oversee compliance with regulatory and tax reporting requirements (CRA, HST, WSIB, T2)
- Provide financial insights and guidance to the COO, Board of Directors, and Committees
- Lead financial analysis efforts to support decision-making and long-term planning
- Manage IT oversight and optimize technology use for financial operations
Accounting Operations Oversight
- Ensure accurate transaction coding, policy adherence, and strong internal controls across all accounting functions
- Oversee accounts payable, payroll, inventory, treasury, and cash receipts
- Monitor cash flow, investments, and financial risk management
- Coordinate year-end audit preparations and liaise with external auditors
Budgeting & Planning
- Collaborate with the COO and SMT to develop and monitor operating and capital budgets
- Prepare and manage multi-year cash flow projections
- Provide support for budget reviews and variance explanations
- Lead the budget and audit processes with transparency and efficiency
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor finance staff, ensuring collaboration, efficiency, and professional development
- Conduct performance appraisals and provide developmental coaching
- Align team structure and workload with organizational priorities
Strategic Contributions
- Develop and execute the annual finance action plan
- Provide financial leadership and strategic planning to align with B&R’s goals
- Support the Board of Directors and Finance Committee, participating in meetings and organizational planning
- Develop and refine financial policies and risk management strategies to ensure fiscal health and operational efficiency
What We’re Looking For
- CPA designation in good standing (Ontario)
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including financial statements, accounts payable, bank reconciliation, and budget management
- Proven supervisory experience, with a track record of leading high-performing teams
- Strong proficiency in accounting software, Excel, and financial technologies
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with professionalism in working with staff, members, committees, and the board
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy

- Successful completion of year-end audits with strong compliance
- Improved financial planning and budgeting processes that align with strategic goals
- Implementation of new financial systems and reporting tools for increased efficiency
