Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid - 4 days in-office)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
The Opportunity
As the Director of FP&A at New Gold, you will play a pivotal role in driving the company’s financial strategy and long-term value creation. Reporting directly to the CFO, you’ll lead budgeting, forecasting, and strategic analysis initiatives while partnering with leaders across operations, finance, and the executive team.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Performance Management
- Lead the annual budgeting, long-range planning, and forecasting processes across corporate and site operations
- Ensure full integration between budget, forecast, and life-of-mine financial models
- Deliver financial analysis and insights to support decision-making by senior leadership and the Board
Operational Reporting & Analysis
- Oversee internal performance reporting across physical, cost, and capital metrics
- Lead cost performance reviews to identify efficiency and optimization opportunities
- Maintain complex financial models for scenario planning and strategic decision support
Capital Planning
- Manage the Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) process and track progress of key capital projects
- Coordinate the capital review process to ensure alignment with financial return objectives and business strategy
Systems Leadership
- Lead the successful implementation of Hyperion Planning, replacing BPC as the primary budgeting and forecasting tool
- Drive system adoption, workflow alignment, and data governance within FP&A processes
- Support finance transformation initiatives in parallel with the broader SAP S/4HANA ERP rollout
Team & Stakeholder Leadership
- Build strong relationships with GMs, site finance teams, the VP of Operations, and ELT
- Establish yourself as a trusted business partner and drive credibility at the Board level
- Support and mentor a team of FP&A professionals and lead continuous improvement efforts
Success Criteria (Key Deliverables)
Within 3 Months:
- Conduct a capability assessment of the FP&A function
- Build foundational relationships with key internal stakeholders
- Create a roadmap for Hyperion Planning implementation
- Lead the annual budgeting cycle
Within 12 Months:
- Successfully deploy and operationalize Hyperion Planning
- Embed data-driven planning processes across the organization
- Deliver enhanced cost analysis and reporting capabilities
- Establish credibility with board members and the executive leadership team
What You Bring
- 10+ years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis
- CPA designation required
- Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, KPI reporting, and capital planning
- Experience working in the mining or broader natural resources sector
- Proven success leading system implementations (Hyperion Planning preferred)
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership capabilities
- Experience working with cross-functional and executive stakeholders
- Strategic mindset with hands-on executional strength
