Director of Project Finance

Location: Downtown Toronto

Industry: Renewable Energy / Infrastructure

Reports to: Senior Director, Project Finance


Our client is a fast-growing developer of clean energy projects with a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation. As they expand their portfolio across North America, they are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Director of Project Finance to help lead the structuring and execution of complex project financing transactions.


This position plays a critical role in securing funding for large-scale renewable energy projects, working closely with internal stakeholders and external capital partners to drive investment success. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in project finance or investment banking, strong financial modelling skills, and a collaborative approach to managing high-value transactions from start to finish.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the structuring, diligence, and execution of project finance transactions, including construction loans, tax equity, and tax credit transfers
  • Support investor outreach and transaction negotiations, working closely with the Senior Manager, Project Finance
  • Build and maintain advanced financial models, including partnership flip structures, to assess project viability and risk
  • Conduct sensitivity analyses and scenario modelling to support decision-making and refine financial assumptions
  • Develop marketing materials, investment proposals, and bid submissions for investor presentations
  • Manage transaction documentation and maintain organized libraries of deal-related materials
  • Facilitate ongoing communication with internal teams across Finance, Accounting, Development, Tax, and Asset Management
  • Coordinate with external capital providers, legal counsel, and advisors to ensure timely and accurate deal execution
  • Monitor regulatory developments and market trends that may impact project economics or financing structures
  • Deliver ad hoc financial reports and insights to executive leadership and external stakeholders


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related discipline is required
  • Advanced degree or CFA designation is an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project finance, financial modelling, investment banking, or a related field
  • Prior experience in the renewable energy sector is highly preferred, particularly with construction financing and tax equity structures
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced modelling skills and comfort with complex capital structures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to prepare high-quality presentations and reports
  • Proven ability to manage multiple transactions simultaneously and work effectively under pressure
  • Must be legally eligible to travel throughout the United States and Canada
